Bank statement → ExcelPublic beta

A bank statement, as a workbook you can check.

DocShape turns a PDF bank statement into an Excel workbook (.xlsx). The transactions go on one sheet, the figures the statement printed on a second, and the result of checking one against the other on a third.

Before anything is downloaded, the converter shows the summary, a sample of the extracted transactions and the verification outcome. The workbook holds the full transaction table.

Open the converter

The public beta runs for a limited time, on a best-effort basis, and the upload on the homepage says whether it is open right now. It takes a text-based PDF statement of up to 10 MB and 8 pages; scanned statements are refused. The full converter remains a private, invite-only beta. No separate DocShape account is required.

Inside the workbook

Three sheets, each with one job.

What happened, what the statement says, and whether the two agree — in that order, one sheet each. Choose a sheet to see it.

Built to be worked in

Sort it, filter it, add it up.

The workbook is made for the next step — a reconciliation, a budget, a question from your accountant — so every cell holds the kind of value it looks like.

Dates are dates
Date cells, formatted yyyy-mm-dd, so they sort and filter as dates rather than as text.
2026-06-02Date cell
Amounts are exact numbers
Numeric cells written from exact decimal values. A figure too long for Excel to hold exactly is written as text instead of being quietly rounded.
3,200.00Number cell
Debit, credit and signed
Separate Debit and Credit columns, plus a Signed Amount column — credits positive, debits negative — when one column of figures is what you need.
-1,200.00Signed Amount
Nothing runs
No formulas, macros or charts. A description that begins with an equals sign is stored as text and never calculated.
=Refund · Invoice 1042Text cell
Blank means not printed
An empty cell is something the statement did not state — never a zero or a guess put there to fill the gap.
Not printed

Consolidated statements

Several accounts, one workbook, each checked on its own.

Where a consolidated statement’s structure is supported, the workbook opens with an Overview sheet — one column per account — followed by each account’s own Transactions and Verification sheets. Nothing is added up across accounts.

Not every multi-account layout is supported. DocShape converts up to ten accounts from one PDF; a statement with more is not converted.

Review first

See the result before you download it.

For each account, the converter shows one of three outcomes — Verified, Needs review, or Could not be verified automatically — next to a sample of the extracted transactions. The Verification sheet carries the same outcome, with the figures behind each check.

How the checks work
  • VerifiedThe extracted amounts reconcile with balances or totals DocShape read from the statement. This does not confirm that every transaction, date or description was captured correctly.
  • Needs reviewOne or more verification checks did not reconcile. Review the extracted data before exporting.
  • Could not be verified automaticallyDocShape did not recognize enough independent financial figures in this statement to check the extracted amounts automatically. The statement may contain balances or totals in a format DocShape does not yet support. Review the result against your statement before relying on it.

When a statement can’t become a workbook

DocShape says so and explains why, rather than handing over a workbook you would have to second-guess. For example, when:

  • The PDF is password-protected.
  • DocShape cannot read the layout reliably — a limitation of the converter, not a problem with your document.
  • The statement states values that contradict each other.
  • DocShape cannot reliably tell which account each transaction belongs to.
  • One PDF holds statements for more than ten accounts.

Choosing a format

CSV or Excel?

Both come from the same conversion you reviewed, and you can download either.

XLSXExcelThis page

For review and work.

A workbook: the transactions, with the statement's figures and the verification result alongside them.

  • Transactions, Summary and Verification sheets
  • Date and number cells, a bold, frozen, filterable header
  • Several accounts: an Overview, then each account's own sheets

CSVCSV

For imports, scripts and databases.

A fixed schema: eleven columns in the same order every time, transactions only.

  • UTF-8, CRLF, ISO dates, plain decimals
  • The currency and its basis on every row
  • Several accounts: one file each, never merged
